Professional Avicultural Standards

The main focus of the OPA is on gaining recognition of aviculture. One necessary step toward accomplishing that goal is the development of professional standards, as a protection for the birds, the individual breeder and for the industry as a whole.

American aviculture has evolved over the past 20 years to become a more cooperative venture for many bird breeders. The internet has provided a sense of community, and brought breeders together by types of birds bred and by special interest, as well as into organizations such as the OPA.

OPA's members find themselves willing to share information with each other for the benefit of the trade, concerning their experiences with breeding, nutrition, and disease prevention, as well as shipping and selling.
